Gift Giving Guide

Do you get stressed when it comes to gift giving holidays? Feel pressured trying to find the perfect gift? There’s nothing worse than knowing you missed the mark with your gift. Nothing like a fake smile and forced ‘I love it’ to make you instantly regret your gift choice. The best way to avoid awkward gift giving is to really study what she likes and dislikes. For most occasions, a girl’s favorite gift to receive is jewelry. Jewelry is a gift that keeps on giving, can last forever and sometimes gets better with age. From surprising her with the perfect diamond engagement ring to giving mom the perfect strand of pearls, we want to share our jewelry gift giving tips to help ease these often high-pressure situations. We’ve broken down the top gift giving holidays with the best jewelry gift ideas for each.

For her birthday, you can’t go wrong with a piece of jewelry that features her birth month’s gem stone. Depending on her style, a necklace, earrings, or ring with the appropriate gem is sure to bring a true smile to her face. The shades of precious gemstones span the color spectrum and are as alluring and different as the people that wear them. From the rich hues of a rubies and sapphires to the opulence of an opal, she is sure to be fascinated with this birthday gift. The appropriate gem stone color for each month is as follows:

  • January – Garnet
  • February – Amethyst
  • March – Aquamarine
  • April – Diamond
  • May – Emerald
  • June – Pearl
  • July – Ruby
  • August – Peridot
  • September – Sapphire
  • October – Opal or Tourmaline
  • November – Citrine
  • December – Turquoise

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is your chance to show your mom or wife just how much she means to you. She has spent her whole life giving and sacrificing for you, now it’s your turn to show her your appreciation. Putting some deep thought into this gift is essential to making her feel special. A customized piece of jewelry with her kids birth stone incorporated into it is just the thing to do that. Depending on her style and jewelry preferences, design a custom piece of jewelry that she will cherish forever. The thought that you put into the jewelry design will be half of the gift’s charm. Mom’s love anything that their children make, why not make her something that she can wear and will last.

Valentine’s Day

This holiday has evolved to carry some pretty high expectations but don’t worry, we’ll help you through it! Every girl deserves to receive a pair of diamond earrings and this is your perfect opportunity. Diamond studs are also less intimidating than buying a diamond ring if you are still in the dating phase. The cut, color, clarity, and carat, also known as the 4 C’s of diamonds, are all important factors to consider depending on your budget when choosing a quality set of earrings. When choosing the perfect pair of studded diamond earrings, make sure you talk with your jeweler about the 4 C’s:

  • Cut refers to the how the diamond is shaped. Diamonds can be round brilliant, princess cut, pear shape, oval and marquise. The cutting of the diamond is what creates the beautiful reflection and refraction of light, giving a diamond its brilliant ‘sparkle’.
  • Color of a diamond is based on a grade scale, starting with D and ending at Z. A diamond with a grade of D is white and transparent, whereas the color grade of Z would have a significant yellow tone. Diamonds graded D through F are naturally the most valuable because of their rarity.
  • Clarity of a diamond refers to the imperfections in or on the surface of a diamond. The clarity scale is based on a scale that ranges from flawless to imperfect. When an imperfection is on the inside of a diamond they are called inclusions and ones on the surface are called blemishes.
  • Finally, the carat refers to the weight of the diamond. Each carat is divided up into 1/100 equal parts called points.

Typically, Christmas is an easier holiday to shop for since making Christmas wish lists are half the fun. However, to surprise her with an unexpected gift, give her something that she didn’t ask for but will still love. A gold, silver or platinum pendant necklace from Monahan Jewelers is just the thing. Monahan’s carries a varied selection of pendant necklaces sure to fit her personal style.

Wedding Day

Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life! As the old saying goes, she should receive ‘something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.’ This collection of items is considered good luck for a bride to take to her wedding. The wedding day gift should be just as special! When we think of weddings, we think of pearls (other than the diamond ring of course!) Give her a pearl necklace or bracelet for her to show off as she walks down the aisle.

Whatever holiday you are struggling with, Monahan’s has the inventory to make sure you don’t fall short of her expectations! Knowing her likes and dislikes is important and our staff can help guide you to the perfect gift for any occasion.
